The Homokháti Hungária Cup international orienteering competition was organized by Maccabi VAC with nearly 2000 competitors from 20 countries, with the largest teams coming from Poland and Russia.
At 8 pm, Sarolta Monspart, the first world champion in orienteering and the president of the National Leisure Sports Association, officially opened the competition. The participants of the competition also visited the beautiful Szeged Synagogue, which was a great experience for everyone.
We would also like to mention the Israeli orienteering team who came to the Homokhát Hungarian Cup at the invitation of the Maccabi VAC. Their costs were entirely borne by the organisers, they only had to finance the travel costs. Their meals at the 4-star Colosseum Hotel, transportation to the competition venues and other programs were provided by the organizers. We are content knowing they returned home to the Holy Land with maximum satisfaction, pleasant experiences, and a lifelong memory.
All in all, we managed to organize a detailed, high-quality competition that drew large crowds, which will be difficult for the next Hungária Cup organizing team to surpass next year. We hope that the MACCABI VAC name will become unanimous among great orienteers.
